Echium fastuosum (also known as Pride of Madeira) is a striking, drought-tolerant shrub that adds bold texture and colour to the garden. It forms a large, rounded mound and can reach around 1.5 to 2.5 metres tall and wide in New Zealand conditions. From spring to summer, it produces impressive spikes of blue-purple flowers that are a magnet for bees and butterflies. Best planted in full sun with well-drained soil, it’s ideal for coastal gardens or dry, sunny spots.
